 PQASSO                                                            image001

New Horizons is pleased to announce that we have been chosen as one of the 125 third sector organizations in Wales to be involved in the new PQASSO for Wales project. PQASSO for Wales is an exciting five year project, running until the end of 2018, which aims to strengthen quality management in the third sector by helping organisations to improve their governance, improve the quality of services for users, develop more effective and efficient systems and procedures, and create a culture of continuous improvement.

It is funded by the Big Lottery Fund and is being led by NCVO, working in partnership with WCVA to promote and deliver the project in Wales. WCVA and NCVO were looking for a mixture of organisations from a range of geographical locations, of differing sizes, and engaged in a variety of fields, to take part in the new project. PQASSO is the leading quality standard developed for, and by, third sector organisations.

Developed in 1997, it is a tried and tested approach to quality management in the third sector. PQASSO has been used by over 17,000 organisations. Implementing quality standards and evaluating performance are vital to ensuring organisations are effective and assuring their continued positive impact on society.

New Horizons Away Day (April 2016)

website

The New Horizons’ 2016 Away Day for service users, trustees, volunteers and staff members was well attended with 28 people actively participating on the Day.

Carolyn Sansom, Chair of New Horizons, welcomed all to the Away Day and gave an overview of the day’s activities and Billy Hardy from the University of South Wales facilitated the Day.

On the Day participants were asked to record what they saw as the achievements for New Horizons, what is working not so well and where we like to go next?

The final session of the Away Day included a discussion around ‘quality’ and the national third sector quality standard PQASSO that New Horizons is working towards.

RECOVERY COLLEGE

From April 2015 New Horizons introduced the new Recovery College which now offers courses using an educational approach. The courses focus on helping people recognise and making use of their talents and resources,  assist people in exploring their possibilities and to develop their skills. The courses aim to support people to achieve their goals and ambitions. Students are able to choose their own courses, work out ways of making sense of (and to find meaning in) what has happened and become experts in managing their own lives.

Mental Health

1 in 4 people will experience mental health problems at some time in their life. The stigma attached to mental health issues adds to injury.

During the journey to recover people may need support as they can become isolated and their confidence shattered.

New Horizons’ Youth Project

The New Horizons’ Youth Project is for young adults (aged between 18 and 25) who live in RCT and who are experiencing mental health problems.

Thank you for your support

New Horizons would like to say a big thank you to all the donors. Every penny we receive makes a real difference to the lives of people affected by mental health.

Unlike other mental health charities, New Horizons receives no financial support from the Welsh Assembly, and very few donations from supporters. This means we have to spend a significant amount of our time raising the money just to be here.

If you would like to show your support for New Horizons by making a donation you can do so by clicking here

Your generous donation can help in the following ways: Just £5 Will allow one member to experience a social event which they would otherwise not be able to attend.
